Home at last.

with 2 comments

It’s been a very long day but we’re home at last. Too late to work on the site, too tired to spit. Well fed after the leg of lamb… but so tired I just need to sleep. πŸ™‚

Did I mention the leg weighed 3.5 kilos? Only cost $3.99 a kilo too. Good value we thought… tho for a ‘lamb’ to have a leg that weight probably means it was really hogget… but what the heck. It really tasted ok and just fell off the bone!!

I’m off to bed… I’ll have a go at the site tomorrow… I’m *sure* I’ll be ok by then!! πŸ˜€

Something important!

Yup… whatever it was I was going to write was something important. Unfortunately that’s the only thing I can remember about it.

If it ever comes back to me I’ll let you know!! πŸ˜€

The Skater & her Dad?

with one comment

Was considering making up yet another blog called something like ‘The Skater & her Dad’ and load stuff onto and into it that is related to figure skating… and *more* importantly the youngest daughters development as a skater (if any) and of course pictures of her!! πŸ™‚

I’ll not be creating a link to it from here… or anywhere else for that matter. It’ll be ‘public’ of course, but until she’s 18 years old or so… the only people who’ll *know* where it is and be sent the url and those who might have a reason to see it. πŸ™‚

If you want the url you’ll have to email me and ask! πŸ™‚

The thing will be ‘active’ in a few days but like all things on the web will take a while to establish itself and have pictures etc loaded up.

Another day…

leave a comment »

Another day dawns… or did several hours ago. The chaos yesterday is forgotten… except that everyone in NSW has to continually check whatever clocks they use in case they are computer controlled and think Daylight Saving has ended. Here it ends next week, but nobody told the computers! πŸ™‚

Anyway, I digress as usual. Was officially up at 4:45 a.m. to take the youngest to her practice session at the ice-rink but in fact I was out of bed at 3:00 a.m. having spent an hour or more lying awake! No idea why… just couldn’t sleep. Now of course I feel a little like I imagine a wrung out cloth might feel if it had feelings… oh dear what am I on about. 😦

Err… ok. I’m off to the eldest daughters school in a few minutes. She forgot her music books and I said I’d take them up… must be genetic, I forget everything! In my case it might just be a result of being tired and hungry, but I don’t think so. I think that’s my brain telling me to find an excuse to go and eat! Which I think is the cue for me to leave soon!:)

So, from the school… tho exhausted and still in pain… I’ll be off to the gym *again* for another hour of self-inflicted torture. As said before, I have no idea whether my old bones will take an hour a day pounding along on a treadmill, but there’s only one way to find out!

From there… it’ll be off to yet another session at an ice-rink where the youngest will be having an actual lesson! What’s even more exciting, is that she is asking if she can go on Wednesday mornings as well for *more* practice! Assuming we agree… and I can manage to keep this up… she’ll be skating up somewhere near 16 hours a week!! Sounds like a lot for an 8 year old… but she seems keen and I figure if she’s willing to make the effort we ought to encourage her. I *can* see the time coming when she’ll be wanting to go to *every* morning session… 6 days a week. Whether I’m willing to keep up with *that* amount of dedication I can’t say right now. I’m not getting any younger… and these ice-rinks are getting no warmer!! πŸ˜€

We live in interesting times.

Quiet ol' day today.

leave a comment »

Not a lot happening here today. The kids are away, the youngest still at a sleepover, and the eldest to a friends party. The wife is working trying to catch up on the work she missed whilst home with the sore back… and I’m pottering about in the garage trying to find some floor space.

Because of my back/hip/toe/etc I’ve not been able to do much out in the garage for months so it’s get pretty dire in there. It got to the stage that people would simply open the door and throw stuff in because it was too hard to negotiate the piles of accumulated boxes and tools that were lying around.

I’ve cleared a half but thought lunch might be a good idea. I’m not eating a lot after all so when it’s time… it’s *time*!! πŸ™‚

Now I’m drunk a cup of what is whimsically called ‘Beef Curry’ I feel no fuller than I did before. Nevertheless it’s time to go get on with it while I can. I *was* going to mow the lawns, but it’s taken me so long to get access to the mower I think it would be too hot to attempt it. Besides, it’s nearly time to go get the eldest… the youngest is being brought home later… even more reason to get the garage done!

On the other hand…. why worry?? There’s always maΓ±ana.

Did *you* support Earth Hour?

leave a comment »

Earth Hour had a lot of support this year in Australia.. and it seems around the world! I hope you all sat around in darkness for an hour wondering what to do with yourselves… as we did. πŸ™‚

The youngest had gone for a sleepover at a friends so there were just the three of us here sitting and chatting in the darkness until we felt able to switch the lights on again. Made a nice change to have a conversation… tho admittedly I fell asleep half way through. To be fair I’d been up since 4:45 a.m. and hadn’t eaten much all day so I felt ok about it.

Still hungry this morning… it’ll pass. Now looking at the news to see who else around the world followed the example of Oz and switched off for a short while. Maybe it won’t make a whole heap of difference, but if it raises awareness and changes perceptions a little… it’ll have been worth doing.

Let me entertain you.

Better yet… let someone else do it!

We’ve been watching a few ‘old movies’ recently and enjoying them immensely. We watched “Mrs Henderson Presents” with Dame Judi Dench opening the now defunct Windmill Theatre… great stuff if a little sanitised. Also sanitised but still watchable was “To Sir with Love” with a youngish Sidney Poitier (before his knighthood) and Judy Geeson (who became neither ‘Dame’ nor ‘Sir’ and at age 59 is now running an antiques shop :)).

A few of these movies were borrowed from the newly opened library… luckily their book stock is far newer than their DVD collection! πŸ™‚

I’m currently listening to (rather than watching) the DVD of “Queen Rock Montreal” (1981) and “their “Live Aid” performance (1985). Brilliant musicians at the peak of their popularity.

Lowering the tone slightly… a lot… we watched a 2006 production of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” starring Donny Osmand and his teeth. To be fair he has a good voice and I have to admit he did a really good job and I think we’ll be watching this one again before it is returned.
Later on we have a DVD of the final “Prime Suspect” tho of course since it was released in 2006 it’s nowhere near as old. Hey… Helen Mirren is also a Dame! We’re getting thru some aristocratic movies! πŸ™‚

Loads of other stuff here to work through, for example I have a bunch of old Bogart movies here that might we worth a squizz! I bought them when the oldies were over but for some reason we never got round to watching them. Be good to see if my memory of the films being so good stands up to current reality.

Tia for two?

leave a comment »

Hard as it is for me to reconcile the two images below, nonetheless they *are* both the same woman! I’ve never seen Naomie Harris anywhere other than in her role as Tia Dalma in the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean” movies so when I came across these pictures I just had to add them to the collection!

Naomie Harris is Tia Dalma

Oddly enough as bizarre as her appearance is in those films she always had that ‘seductive’ quality in her eyes… and it was just so nice to see that under the grotesque make up she really *was* (is!!) as lovely as she appeared she night be!

Not sure if you follow that but it made sense to me! πŸ™‚

And… we're off (again)!

with 2 comments

Went to the gym… got weighed (again)… had my photo taken (again)… listened to the motivational talks (again)… and came home (again), and so here we go on the Hills Biggest Loser Competition (again). πŸ™‚

The wife came along this time to give me a little ‘moral support’ which was really nice… especially as she’s promised to do the same as last time and take over the cooking while I concentrate on working off the excess poundage!

Talking of ‘poundage’, I unfortunately (?) weighed in at 129.8 kilos… tho I *had* just drunk a few glasses of water and eaten my morning ‘breakfast bar’, a high protein low carb concoction so it isn’t quite as bad as it looks. Well ok it *is* as bad as it looks… I clearly need to lose 30 kilos minimum, if I lose anything I’ll be happy… but *if * I could lose more I’d be even happier.

As far as the competition itself is concerned it looks like we might be in with a chance of winning something. There were only three guys there at the weigh in, and there are three prizes for men! If I can hold it together we could do well.

So… the whistle has blown… and we’re off!!!

…. (again)

Oh Crap!

The old man sends me cuttings from the hard copy media about this and that. Mostly they are informational and useful, but occasionally they are also quite amusing.

One such arrived a little while ago and I reprint it here… for reasons of which, I’m sure most of you will be aware. I can’t tell which paper this snippet arose but it goes as follows:

Why do writers write? A new theory from Bill Lawrence, owner of the pen behind Zac Branff’s hospital sitcom Scrubs.”I write because I’, insecure, because I’m depressed, angry, joyous, drunk, bored” he muses in an essay for the ‘Why We Write’ website (www.whywewriteseries.wordpress.com), “But most of all, I write because I’m full of sh*t”.

Seems to sum it up nicely! πŸ˜€
